Azienda Agricola La Fenice

Azienda Agricola La Fenice

The Azienda Agricola La Fenice was born in a chestnut woodland in the mountains of Vicchio del Mugello. A territory almost enchanted that the family de La Fenice safeguards. In a house on the lake Vicchio, at the foot of this mountain, the Andrea family has lived for generations. Ten years ago he, together with his wife Valentina, decided to take care of one of the chestnuts of the forest of Vicchio. The work was hard and expensive but the beauty of the days spent in the midst of nature gave him the strength to endure even the most intense moments. Today it is always the two of them, together with their colleagues, who carry on the work with love and dedication. In their laboratory they work by hand the fruits of their land, without additives or preservatives, to maintain the simplicity and taste that nature offers us. The company has in fact earned the "bio" brand, a symbol of authenticity and respect that they are committed to respect each day.

La Marroneta

The traditional chestnut grove is a unique environment, where human work meets the forces of nature, drawing unmistakable landscapes.
The chestnut tree has a great ability to adapt thanks to its powerful roots.
The marroneta that makes up the agricultural fund of La Fenice is located in the municipality of Vicchio, in the Mugello Valley, near Florence.
A peculiar characteristic of the chestnut it is its regenerative capacity: very old trees sometimes with a hollow trunk due to age or even being burned by lightning, show lush leafy greens; tender, freshly grafted trees are flanked by robust trunks; the new born tiny seedlings are carefully safeguarded because they promise future development.

Il Marrone del Mugello IGP

The European Union has recognized since the first act of identification of the 1996 IGP the excellence of Mugello chestnuts, giving them the prestigious mark of Protected Geographical Indication, which is attributed to those agricultural products and foodstuffs for which a certain quality, reputation or other characteristic depends on their geographical origin and whose production and processing takes place in a specified geographical area.
To be IGP the chestnuts must have precise characteristics: a rather large and homogeneous size (no more than 90 fruits per kilo), they must be healthy - without mould or holes - whole, dry and clean. From chestnuts to the sales counter, a strict discipline regulates the entire supply chain, which must meet precise requirements and controls.
